The Glowworm Tunnel and Glowworm tunnel road
The 39 km road (78 km return) is a well made dirt road that follows the original railway track and goes through a tunnel, ideal for cycling. There are some spectacular views. Blast Furnace Park
William Sandford established the blast furnace in 1886 and it continued production until 1928 when the entire industry was moved to Port Kembla. The site has now been developed as a park around the remains of the pump house and the foundations of the furnace. The Iron cast at Blast Furnace Park was a component of the first ‘commercial’ steel made in Australia. There were previous Blast Furnaces in Australia, and a small amount of steel was made in South Australia before Lithgow, but not of commercial quantities. https://lithgow-tourism.com/blast.htm
